After spending much of the day at Salina’s zoo and wildlife museum, the idea of sampling some wine sounded pretty good! Trip & I drove north of Salina a few miles to Smoky Hill Vineyards & Winery. What a surprise! We sampled several wines, and then chose our favorites to enjoy along with the lovely views from the outdoor veranda. My favorite was Sweet Lady, which Trip said makes sense. : ) He was partial to the Heartland Red, since he prefers a burgundy. We even toured the Barrel Cave where we learned about how the wines are created. I was happy to find really cute things in the gift shop too – always time to shop! We’re planning to come back soon for one of their Murder Mystery Dinners or Wine Maker’s Dinners. We left the winery in time to run downtown to the Lee District to buy tickets to an upcoming concert at the Stiefel Theatre. Then we had a wonderful meal at Martinelli’s Little Italy, right across the street. I order a Chopped Salad, and Trip helped me with it, along with his Vodka Shrimp. Wow – what a great day! Then it was off to the hotel to rest up for our next day’s adventure on I-70! More to come from Kansas I-70!
