Civil War Birth Place – Where Slavery Began to Die

Here, we invite you to balance honor and tradition with fun and possibilities.

Lecompton was the Terrritorial Capital of Kansas from 1855 to 1861. The Lecompton Constitution written in Constitution Hall, a National Landmark, was debated in Congress and was responsible for splitting the national Democratic Party. Four national candidates campaigned for President and Abraham Lincoln won with 39 percent of the vote. The Territorial Capitol Museum was started as the Capitol Building of Kansas and was finished as Lane University. President Dwight Eisenhower’s parents were married at this site in 1885.
