Artist Ellen Duncan

The paintings of Ellen Duncan adorn the walls of the Territorial Capital Museum. Her paintings and watercolors bring to life historic scenes from Lecompton and the surrounding areas.

She has received awards for her historical mural illustrations displayed in the Territorial Capital Museum as well as in the Lecompton post office lobby. She designed, carved and painted the bald eagle adornment on the front of the Community Building. She designed two Territorial Day Cancellation Stamps for the U.S. Post Office. She has been a major contributor to the Lecompton Historical Society by creating dozens of historical illustrations for the Bald Eagle publication of the Lecompton Historical Society.

Ellen is married to Howard Duncan who is the author of the Bleeding Kansas play performed by the Lecompton Reenactors. They were honored in 2019 by the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas and received the Special Citation for Preserving Kansas Heritage.
